A defining chapter in my professional journey has been the privilege of serving my country at the General Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles. This Consulate stands as one of Mexico's most important representations globally, especially considering the millions of Mexican nationals residing in this region of California. This role has not only been a point of pride but also a profound responsibility, allowing me to make meaningfull contributions to the lives of a substantial and vital community. This life experience has been a crucial turning point, clearly defining my career interests in international affairs and diplomacy. Far more than just shaping my professional journey, it has profoundly embedded within me a commitment to pursue change through international affairs and community development, marking a significant chapter in my personal and professional growth.
At the General Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles, my experience extended far beyond gaining professional expertise; it also allowed me to serve the community where I grew up, adding a personal dimension to my work. Collaborating with Mexican Ambassador Marcela Celorio, a distinguished career diplomat, whom I hold in high regard for the opportunity to learn under her guidance and expertise, was particularly enlightening. Her extensive knowledge in International Affairs and Diplomacy offered me invaluable insights. This mentorship provided me with a comprehensive understanding of diplomatic intricacies and significantly improved my skills in this field. Moreover, working at the Consulate deepened my appreciation for the vital role of diplomacy in international relations and its impact on communities, both local and global, enriching my professional journey with a profound sense of purpose and connection.
In my role at the Consulate, I applied the knowledge gained from my academic studies and previous professional experiences. My background in criminal law, combined with my experience as a Police Cadet with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), proved crucial in fulfilling my consular duties effectively. One of my main responsibilities included making consular visits to immigration detention facilities, as well as federal, and state prisons to provide assistance to Mexican nationals. This role gave me the opportunity to interact and forge important relationships with officials from a range of federal and state law enforcement agencies such as; Los Angeles Sheriff Department (LASD), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). These interactions were crucial, not only in efficiently executing my consular duties but also in establishing a network of professional connections that enhanced my ability to serve effectively in this role.
My experiences at the Consulate not only enabled me to gain deeper insights into diplomacy and international affairs, they also provided me with a more comprehensive understanding of international immigration law and the criminal justice procedures in the United States. This knowledge is something I plan to apply in my future professional and academic endeavors, enriching my expertise and broadening my perspective in these crucial areas.
My enthusiasm for international matters extends well beyond my professional experience; it's a passion deeply rooted in my personal life. I have always been fascinated by discovering new aspects of foreign cultures, exploring various cuisines from around the world, learning different languages, and traveling extensively. I've been fortunate to have traveled to over 50 cities around the globe, a testament to my enduring interest in all things international. This global curiosity has consistently been a significant and enriching part of my life.
